Re-accreditation Options for All Candidates

Note: The new accreditation system is now available. Anyone who received their accreditation in 2014 or earlier can still get re-accreditation using the new points based system until April 2025. The discounted rate is also included in this extended period. Please keep relevant evidence of attendance at any CRM courses, symposiums, conferences etc.

The BHRS council is committed to maintaining the highest levels of skills and knowledge within our membership. The re-accreditation process has been designed to ensure that these levels are properly sustained and supported.

Accreditation is achieved by sitting the exams and from 2022 onwards lasts for 5 years. If you wish to remain accredited you must remain a BHRS member, ensure the maintenance of the CIED’s implant/follow-up skills, background knowledge and/or electrophysiology skills. At the end of the 5 years you have the option to apply for re-accreditation. There are different option available to achieve this.

This page outlines the processes by which you can achieve re-accreditation.

Previously the only option was to resit the exams. The new system allows you the option to submit evidence of skills maintenance which can be processed online. .

BHRS recognises that the number of CIEDs follow-ups/implants and electrophysiology cases personally performed by an individual varies according to their seniority and their role in a department. Therefore each option accepts evidence of professional activity relative to the minimum numbers required. Those minimum requirements are specified under each option.

IBHRE and EHRA accredited members can also re-accredit with BHRS using the below options

You must remain a BHRS member for the duration of your certified period (for any years missing a retrospective charge will be applied)

ACCESS ACCREDITATION POINTS SYSTEM

Option 1: Re-accreditation every 5 years via a points system

  • Re-accreditation can be achieved by collecting points from a variety of different CPD activities over the course of 5 years. These activities are divided into different categories including conferences, training, papers, implants, and others. You need to achieve 25 points in two categories, with a different number of points being awarded for courses/conferences in each category.

  • Before Accreditation is awarded a letter may be sent to your Head of Department confirming you have achieved the BHRS recommended minimum numbers of device implants/follow-ups or EP procedures.

Five yearly fee of £150

Option 2: Re-accreditation every 5 years by resitting the Exam

  • Take the BHRS examination again

  • You are not required to complete a logbook

Five yearly fee of £350 (if you pass)

***You may be required to send us proof countersigned by your Head of Department that you have achieved the BHRS recommended numbers
Additional Notes:
  • Extensions can be applied for maternity leave and long-term sick
  • If in any 1 year the minimum number device follow ups & device implants as per BHRS standards has not been achieved then if an average over 5 years reaches the minimum number per year required this will be accepted.
  • You must have been a BHRS member to re-accredit using the points system and remain a member to remain accredited. If you have let your membership lapse a 50% retrospective membership charge will be added to your final re-accreditation fee.

Certification Expiry Dates for Past Candidates FAQs

Your BHRS certification expires in 5 years from the date you received full certification (i.e. when you had passed both the exam and logbook)

Your BHRS certification expires in 10 years from the date you received full certification (i.e. when you had passed both the exam and logbook)

Your BHRS certification expires 31st December 2024.

Historically BHRS offered lifetime accreditation for those BHRS members that were accredited in 2005 and before. The Accreditation Committee has decided that this has now become unacceptable.  Those members affected should now seek reaccreditation via BHRS points to show your CPD.  You will be able use the new BHRS points system to reaccredit which will be available from March 2024.  Your accreditation will automatically expire 31st December 2024.

Accreditation FAQs

To re-accredit with the BHRS, you must have either BHRS, EHRA, or IBRHE accreditation.

You can obtain a certificate of attendance from the event organiser.

To accredit, you must have 25 BHRS points.

BHRS points are a form of CPD points awarded by the BHRS for events appropriate to your career development.

Yes.

Your re-accreditation will run from the date it is issued and not from when any existing accreditation expires.

To gain accreditation you must either sit the BHRS exam and submit a logbook, or be accredited with EHRA or the IBRHE. To use the re-accreditation system you must first be accredited in the above ways.

You can either sit the BHRS exam again or use the BHRS reaccreditation system.

Accreditation encompasses reaccreditation. The system is designed to ensure that members keep their knowledge as up-to-date as possible.

To go through the reaccreditation process, you must first have been accredited with either the BHRS, EHRA or the IBRHE.

If your accreditation from BHRS, IBHRE, EHRA is from the last 5 years, you do not need to re-accredit. If it is older, it will not gain you points.

The BHRS accept accreditation certificates from the past 23 years, but any courses/events must have been attended in the last 5 years.

If you have lost your certificate, you should approach the governing body who you took your exam with to request a replacement.

No. To be more environmentally friendly and to keep costs down for the candidates an electronic certificate only will be issued.  You will receive a certificate via email within 2 weeks of payment.

From 2022 onwards your original accreditation will last for 5 years. After that you may wish to apply for re-accreditation using the new points system.

Yes, you can do this. Use the ‘ADD OTHER’ button in your Accreditation Diary.

No there is only one charge, and that will cover you for all additional accreditation.

The main categories are Conferences; Training; Papers written; Implants. There is a further “Custom” Category if you have done something that you think should be worthy of consideration.

Once you have submitted your diary it will go to a panel to be approved. As soon as it is approved it will appear in your diary online. While you will be able to see that your re-accreditation has been approved, this is not the end of the process and at this point an email will be sent to you giving payment details. This may take up to two weeks so please be patient. After you have paid, a new accreditation certificate will be sent to you. Again this may take up to two weeks, although it is usually much faster.
